Bible Study: 1 Peter 1
OK Men,
The Apostle Peter learned directly from Jesus himself. After Christ’s ascension, Peter became one of the two most influential men to begin building Christ’s church (Paul being the other). 1 Peter is written to the early church experiencing Roman persecution, and it reminds them (and us!) that despite the challenges, God is still in control.
Today, life may still be hard, but God is always good. And for those who have put their faith in Jesus, better days are ahead!
Chapter 1:
What’s New: “Though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trial. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith - of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire - may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed,” (v6-7).
A simple, continued faith in Christ may not seem like much, but Peter clarifies that faith has “greater worth than gold”. It’s faith that leads us to salvation through Jesus, even when it feels stretched thin and it’s barely hanging on. Thank God today for the faith that you have. It’s what will enable you to see him face to face one day.
Who is God: Written about Jesus, “He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake,” (v20). Jesus’ purpose was decided before the creation of the world, meaning God always knew we would be sinful and in need of a savior. He knew of Adam’s downfall but still created him. Despite our own short comings, he still loves us; he still saved us. God wants us to be with him, and by his love for us, he gave us a simple way to achieve it: Believe in his son Jesus Christ!
OK Men - This is what has stood out to me in chapter one of 1 Peter. What stood out to you? What was new? How did you see the characteristics of God on display? Leave a comment!
