OK Men,
If your Saturdays are anything like mine, they can be full of errands, chores, “To-do” lists, and family time. They now have an added element…playoff football! All of these things fall somewhere on the “Not fun but important” → “Fun but not important” scale. Regardless of how your Saturday looks, I hope you are making time to get into Proverbs 11 today. The Word > playoff football. That reminder is for me!
True story: Many years ago, when I got my very first iPhone (the iPhone 3), it only had 8 GB of space. There was a time when I deleted my Bible app to make room for my fantasy football app. Thank you, Lord, for saving me from what I once was! And thank you for technological advancements and increased phone storage, so I am not annually tempted to repeat that mistake.
Proverbs 11:4 reminds us, “Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.” That old iPhone 3, my current phone, and all future phones fall under the category of “wealth.” I have to remember that they are nothing. They definitely fall on the “Fun but not important” side of the scale. I once heard someone ask, “Do you look for Jesus the same way you look for your phone?” Um…ouch!
It’s easy to panic when we lose our phones because of how often we use them in so many parts of our lives. But shouldn’t Jesus be involved in our lives at the same levels and frequencies that our phones are? When we look for Jesus the way we look for our misplaced phones, we are chasing after righteousness. The good news is that we can never misplace or lose Jesus. He is always right there when we look for him.
The phones are one example, but the “wealth” from Proverbs 4 can be any material thing, or of course, money. It is all worthless in the end. Jesus Christ and His righteousness is the only thing that saves us from death.
Look for Jesus the way you look for a missing phone.
And seriously, don’t delete the Bible App. You might need it for Proverbs 12!
